INFLATABLE INSERT FOR REAR FOOT OF MOTOR VEHICLE
The invention relates to the field of motor vehicles, more particularly to the field of motor vehicle body structures and the assembly of such structures.
A motor vehicle generally consists of several adjoining bodywork elements, these elements forming a bodywork structure. However, in the areas where the various elements meet, the vehicle's seal is often reduced. To overcome this fact, car manufacturers add inserts comprising a support and a bead of expandable material on the support.
The patent document published FR 2 934 232 A1 discloses a waterproof mounting system adaptable to the central leg of a motor vehicle. Thus, a swelling insert is positioned between the central leg and the base member, the swelling insert being constituted by a plastic support and a material which swells beyond a certain temperature.
In certain vehicle configurations, electrical harnesses are arranged in hollow bodies forming the structure of said vehicle. This is particularly the case for vehicles with sliding side doors that require permanent electrical power. In this case, it is known to provide a cable channel of the chain or track type, that is to say consisting of a series of identical elements mounted pivoting step by step. Such a cable tray is then placed along the rocker panel and is then electrically connected to the door and to the vehicle structure. For this purpose, an electrical harness must be placed in the rear leg to open lower, outside the passenger compartment. The installation of such beams during assembly of the vehicle is also made difficult because the assembly is done blind, after the stamping and shoeing steps of the rear foot.
The aim of the invention is to overcome at least one of the drawbacks of the above-mentioned state of the art. More particularly, the invention aims to facilitate the installation of an electrical harness in a hollow body of a motor vehicle, in particular in a rear leg.
The subject of the invention is a motor vehicle body structure, comprising at least one hollow body with: a wall formed by two contiguous body elements; and a swelling insert disposed at the junction between said elements, said insert comprising a support fixed to at least one of the two body elements and at least one bead of expanded material on the support and ensuring a seal between said elements; remarkable in that the support comprises a vertical or inclined guide surface, capable of laterally guiding an electric beam or a hose during insertion of said beam or flexible into the hollow body from an opening located above said insert.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the wall formed by the two adjoining bodywork elements is vertical.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the two body elements comprise a first body element and a second body element located above said first element.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the two body elements include an inner side member of the rocker panel and / or a quarter panel lining.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the junction between the two body elements is horizontal or inclined at an angle of less than 45 ° with the horizontal. The inclination is advantageously less than 30 °, more advantageously less than 20 °.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the hollow body is formed by a rear leg for connection to a side sill, the wall formed by the two adjoining bodywork elements being an interior wall of the vehicle.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the hollow body comprises an outer wall having an orifice at the level of the spar for the purpose of ensuring a connection to an electric supply caterpillar of a sliding side door. By electric power caterpillar means a cable tray of the cable chain type.
The invention also relates to a swelling insert for a hollow body of a motor vehicle structure, comprising: a support; and at least one bead of expandable material on the support, said material being intended, once expanded, to provide a seal between at least two body elements forming a wall of the hollow body; remarkable in that the support comprises a guide surface capable of laterally guiding an electric beam or a hose during insertion of said beam or flexible into the hollow body from an opening situated above said insert.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the bead or strands of expandable material extend in a main direction, the guide surface being perpendicular to said direction or inclined, forming with said direction an average angle less than 45 °.
Advantageously, the cord or cords are made of foam which is expandable to heat. The support is preferably made of polyamide.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the support comprises fixing means distributed above the cord or cords of expandable material, so as to be able to be fixed on an inner face of one of the two body elements, intended to be disposed above the other of said two elements. These fastening means may include pins for insertion into the orifices of one of the elements forming the wall.
The bead of expandable material is advantageously disposed in a groove formed in the support.
The measures of the invention are advantageous in that they facilitate the installation of an electric harness in a hollow body, in this case with a view to electrically supplying sliding side doors, while improving the sealing of the back foot. The support of the inflating insert facilitates the connection between the quarter liner and the inner spar. The presence of a groove on the support makes it possible to limit the expansion of the expandable bead in a direction, preferably longitudinal, to said support. The presence of the expanded cord around each of the fixing means makes it possible to improve the fixing and the sealing of this zone.
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will be better understood from the description and the drawings, among which:
- Figure 1 is a diagram showing a side view of a motor vehicle equipped with a sliding side door, said door being disposed between a center leg and a rear leg;
- Figure 2 is a view of the interior of the rear foot of the motor vehicle of Figure 1, with a swelling insert according to the invention;
- Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the swelling insert of Figure 2;
- Figure 4 is a view showing an inner wall of the rear leg, the view showing the swelling insert of Figures 2 and 3 with an electrical harness mounted;
- Figure 5 is a view of the outer wall of the rear leg of Figure 4.
Figure 1 shows a side view of a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle 1 comprises a body structure 3 serving to support other elements such as side doors 5, and, behind said doors 5, rear fenders 7. On certain vehicle models 1, the side doors 5 are more preferably sliding side doors 5 with an electrical system (not visible in these figures) allowing their movement. These sliding doors 5 are generally mounted on large vehicles 1, such as minivans. The body structure 3 of these vehicles 1 has the particularity of comprising several feet enabling the roof to be supported, and more particularly the rear feet 9, positioned between each of the sliding side doors 5 and each of the rear wings 7 of the vehicle 1.
Each rear leg 9 is a hollow body which has the distinction of being composed of several body elements. It is the junction of the different elements that can cause sealing problems. In vehicles 1 comprising sliding side doors 5, sealing problems can also be the source of problems in the conduction of electricity in doors 5, since it is in this area that electrical harnesses are positioned. (visible in Figures 4 and 5) allowing the supply of said doors 5. This is why a swelling insert (as shown in Figures 2 to 5) according to the invention has been designed to specifically integrate into the rear foot 9 of the vehicle 1.
Figure 2 shows a view of the interior of the rear leg of Figure 1. The rear leg 9 or hollow body, includes an inner wall 11 which is oriented towards the interior of the vehicle and an outer wall (not visible in this figure ) oriented towards the outside of the vehicle. The wall 11 is vertical and formed of two adjoining body elements (13, 15), the first body element 13 forming an inner side member 13 of the rocker panel and the second body element 15 situated above the first element 13 and forming a quarter panel lining 15. Each of these two elements (13, 15) comprises a portion (13A, 15A) oriented longitudinally and a portion (13B, 15B) oriented transversely in front of said longitudinal portion (13A, 15A) . The junction 11A of the two body elements (13, 15) is preferably horizontal. This junction 11A can also be inclined with an angle, with respect to the horizontal, of less than 45 °, advantageously less than 30 °, more advantageously less than 20 °. The wall 11 also has an internal face 11B against which an internal face 19A of the swelling insert 19 is placed. This swelling insert 19 is more preferably positioned at the junction 11A between the two body elements (13, 15), and comprises at least one support 21 fixed to at least one of the two body elements (13, 15) by means of fixing means 23, and at least one bead of expandable material (25A, 25B). The fixing means 23 are preferably pins for insertion into the orifices of one of the elements (13, 15) forming the wall
11. It is the bead or cords of expandable material (25A, 25B) which seal between the various elements of the body (13, 15).
This figure also shows the presence of an opening 15C at the lining of the quarter 15 and positioned above the insert 19, and an orifice 17A positioned on the outer wall (visible in transparency) of the rear leg 9.
FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of the swelling insert of FIG. 2. In this figure, it can be seen that the swelling insert 19 comprises the support 21 and the cords of expandable material (25A, 25B) described in relation with Figure 2. The support 21 comprises a vertical or inclined guide surface 21A, a front portion 21B and a rear portion 21 C. The front portion 21B is positioned transversely to the guide surface 21 A, with an extension positioned against the face inside the edge of the wall (not visible in this figure). The rear portion 21C extends towards the rear wing of the vehicle (not visible in this figure). It is on this support 21 that the strands of expandable material (25A, 25B) are positioned in grooves 27 provided for this purpose. The grooves 27 are intended to support the cords (25A, 25B) and to direct their expansion towards the wall. These grooves 27 have a longitudinal part 27A, preferably positioned at a lower end of the support 21 and a ring part 27B surrounding the fastening means 23 of said support 21. Thus, the cords of expandable material (25A, 25B) extend along a main direction, the guide surface 21A of the support 21 being perpendicular to said direction or inclined, forming with said direction an average angle less than 45 °.
Figures 4 and 5 show views, respectively from the inside and the outside, of the rear foot of the vehicle with the inflating insert of Figures 2 and 3, on which the electrical harness is mounted. The electric harness 29, or flexible, is inserted into the hollow body forming the rear foot 9 for connection to the side member 13 of the rocker panel, from the opening, located above said insert 19. The harness 29 is guided between the two cords made of expandable material (25A, 25B), in particular by virtue of the angle of inclination of the guide surface 21A of the swelling insert 19. The electric harness 29 is then connected to an electric supply caterpillar of the sliding side door through the orifice 17A of the external wall 17, orifice 17A in which there are connectors 31, or connections, to the electric supply caterpillar.

1. Body structure (3) of a motor vehicle (1), comprising at least one hollow body (9) with:
- A wall (11) formed by two adjoining bodywork elements (13, 15); and
- a swelling insert (19) disposed at the junction (11 A) between said elements (13, 15), said insert (19) comprising a support (21) fixed to at least one of the two body elements (13, 15) and at least one bead of expanded material (25A, 25B) on the support (21) and ensuring a seal between said elements (13, 15);
characterized in that the support (21) comprises a vertical or inclined guide surface (21 A) capable of laterally guiding an electric harness (29) or a hose during the insertion of said harness (29) or flexible into the body hollow (9) from an opening (15C) located above said insert (19).

characterized in that the support (21) comprises a guide surface (21 A) capable of laterally guiding an electric harness (29) or a hose during insertion of said harness (29) or flexible in the hollow body (9) from an opening (15C) located above said insert (19).
